Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel: Annual Service, 12 June, 2016

The annual service of remembrance and thanksgiving, commemorating those who lost their lives in the liberation of the Falkland Islands from illegal Argentine military occupation in 1982, was held at the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel at Pangbourne College on 12 June 2016. 

The service was attended by over 300 veterans, family members and friends of the Falkland Islands. The Rt Rev’d Nigel Stock, Bishop at Lambeth, Bishop to the Armed Forces and Bishop for the Falkland Islands, gave the address and Rev Neil Jeffers, chaplain of Pangbourne College, officiated with prayers led by Rev David Cooper (Chaplain 2 Para 1982). Lessons were read by Major General Jeff Mason MBE RM (second in command 6th Assault Squadron Royal Marines, HMS Intrepid 1982) and Mrs Janet Visuvalingam (sister of Sergt. Malcolm Wigley, 1st Battalion Welsh Guards 1982). The Act of Remembrance was led by Cdr Andrew Gordon-Lennox RN (First Lieutenant HMS Ardent 1982). Capt Philip Roberts DSO RFA (Capt of RFA Sir Galahad 1982) rang ‘Eight Bells’ on the Sir Galahad Bell to start the service. 

Music was provided by the Ensemble of the Band of the RAF College and the choir and chamber choir of Pangbourne College. The pipes were played by Keith Burton GD Marine (40 Commando Royal Marines 1982). James Bowstead, organist-in-residence at Pangbourne College played the organ throughout the service.
